A relaxing and scenic way to see the city's skyline, regular cruises operate along the St. Lawrence River. A variety of different cruise packages are available on the river and both blue and beluga whales are often spotted swimming nearby. Central to city life, Dufferin Terrace is a major boardwalk area alongside the St. Lawrence River, in Old Quebec. This promenade is known throughout Quebec City for its lively street entertainment and nearby attractions, and is a particularly popular spot during the summer months, when many tourists choose to congregate here. The Promenade des Gouverneurs can be found at the southern end of the Dufferin Terrace.

Connected to the Dufferin Terrace, Quebec City's Promenade des Gouverneurs is a further boardwalk area, offering superb views, high above the river. Around 0.5 miles / 1 km in length, the promenade remains open throughout the year and is close to the Citadel.

Situated in the heart of Old Quebec, the Artillery Park National Historic Site was last used as barracks for both the British and French in the mid-20th century. Providing easy access up an extremely steep gradient, the Funicular Railway operates throughout the year and the short journey is extremely inexpensive. With a number of attractions, such as outstanding city views and a gift shop, the railway was modernized at the end of the 20th century, although it still retains much of its earlier charm and character.
